B&B -- Thumbs Down
Even though I stopped watching B&B recently, I remained
quite curious about Stephanie’s death. As a result, I wound
up recording and watching the episode in which Stephanie
died (Susan Flannery’s last day on the show) and the
following episode, with a lot of FF'ing. It was difficult to
watch Stephanie's dying scenes, especially because of how
Brooke was crying and sobbing, understandably so.
I wonder how SF managed to keep coughing the way she did,
that couldn't have been good for her to have to do, unless
they somehow dubbed the sound of a woman coughing into the
The episode after Stephanie’s death was disappointing to
me -- the two or so sentences of information on my DVR guide
mentioned something about Eric and Pam doing a tribute to
Stephanie, but this wasn't really the case. Eric had a
flashback about Stephanie (a pillow fight they’d had at Big
Bear) and Pam cried a lot.
I was watching B&B back when Stephanie and Pam’s mother,
Ann Douglas (played by Betty White) died, and that episode
was very moving and touching, especially because Ann was
surrounded by her two daughters. Ironically, it was
Stephanie who left Chicago as soon as she could to get away
from their mother.
Admittedly, since I no longer watch B&B, I don’t know why
Stephanie chose to spend her last moments with Brooke rather
than her long-time loving (and not-so-loving) husband,
Eric. That would have been a fitting and satisfying tribute
to their long, rich history.
Although Brooke and Stephanie also had a long, rich
history, most of which was not pleasant (they sure had their
share of down and dirty fights and plotting against each
other), I’m thinking that having Stephanie die in Brooke’s
arms could have been a way to honor how these two women
finally came to genuinely love and care about each other.
Nice, but not the way I’d have preferred to see Stephanie go
Much to my surprise and dismay, there was a scene with
Bill and Brooke kissing. Based on DVR information I’d read,
I figured that they had bonded out of necessity after Katie
ran away and Brooke was helping Bill take care of the baby.
Now it appears to be a case of ** same old-same-old **
regarding Brooke. She keeps things in the family, so this
time she'll wind up sleeping with her sister's husband.
Yuck. Also, this kind of repeated basic storyline is one of
the reasons I stopped watching B&B in the first place.
Beyond my curiosity about Stephanie's death, I have no
temptation whatsoever to pick up and start watching B&B!
Glad I didn't get sucked back in.
